Baths in the Japanese way

Traditionally in Japan, the bathing process is a ceremony that takes place in two stages; the first serves to cleanse the body, the second to cleanse the soul. It is an ancient ritual that takes time, and it is meant to do so. Before you get changed, our host will tell you all you need to know. The process begins in the softly lit washing room, where wooden buckets and low stools are lined up. Seated on a stool you wash in slow movements towards the heart. Fill the bucket with water, bring it over your head and rinse. Repeat the process again and again until you feel entirely clean and relaxed.

When the body is clean, you turn to the soul. You may just want to sink into the comfortable warmth of the hot springs or take a swim in the pool. Or why not venture outside to enjoy the views from one of our outdoor hot springs? The most important thing is that you do what feels right for you. Remember - just take your time.
