The yukata at Yasuragi

Just like in Japan you will be given a yukata - a cotton robe - when you arrive here. This is what you will wear between the baths, when taking part in activites, having treatments and even during mealtimes. You do not have to worry about what to wear at Yasuragi, and this feels liberating. The yukata is dark blue with a pattern of white Japanese signs; fuku which means 'luck and joy' and kotobuki which means 'true happiness'. And this is precisely what we would wish for all our guests. If you stay over night you will find your yukata in your room. If you are a day guest, you are given one at reception upon arrival. The yukata is yours to keep, as a memory of your visit to Yasuragi.

The yukata in Japan
A yukata is a traditional Japanese robe, which is worn by men and women alike. In appearance it resembles a kimono. The difference between the two relates to the fabric, as a kimono is usually made of silk and a yukata of cotton. Originally only the aristocracy and warriors would wear a yukata at a Ryokan. But when the Japanese bath houses, sento, become more popular, the habit spread to the rest of the population. In today's Japan most people would choose a slightly smarter version of the yukata, similar to the kimono.
